J.K. Rowling Crime Writer?

Excerpt from the Associated Press:

Report: Rowling Writing Detective Novel

Associated Press Writer

J.K. Rowling has been spotted at cafes in Scotland working on a detective novel, a British newspaper reported Saturday.

The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Ian Rankin, a fellow author and neighbor of Rowling's, as saying the creator of the "Harry Potter" books is turning to crime fiction.

"My wife spotted her writing her Edinburgh criminal detective novel," the newspaper, which was available late Saturday, quoted Rankin as telling a reporter at an Edinburgh literary festival.

"It is great that she has not abandoned writing or Edinburgh cafes," said Rankin, who is known for his own police novels set in the historic Scottish city.

The rest of the story is here.

Now the question is, would anyone buy an adult novel from Ms. Rowling?

A lot of adults bought her Harry Potter books, so I can see them giving her crime novel a chance.

Since my final Harry Potter theory is that JKR changed her mind on the solution to the mysteries created in the earlier books (after laying her clues) and concluded the series in kind of a "select the plot" election from the huge Harry Potter fansites, I would love JKR to write a crime fiction book about an author of a popular series who has done what I propose JKR did and is then murdered. Think of all the possible suspects and the way the crime would be solved. First the investigator has to figure out what was done and then solve the crime.

I think JKR could write a good mystery if this is the plot. A writer should write about things they know about.

Rankin admitted it was a joke on his part. So everyone can relax now.
